Schmearz Bagels on Ben-Yehuda 171 is Tel Aviv’s answer to a real New York bagel shop – the kind that actually gets the chew right. It’s run by Michal Epstein (the MasterChef winner behind Eats), bagels come out fresh all day, and the menu swings from classics unique combos: salmon “pastrami,” fried pickles with cream-cheese dip, the avocado-poached-egg situation everyone Instagrams, and even sweet half-bagels with sprinkles for the kids-at-heart. By noon they’ve usually sold out of half the flavors – but that’s part of the charm. Prices aren’t cheap, but the bagels hit, the schmears are fun, and tbh, it tastes like the closest thing to NYC you’ll get without boarding a plane.
