Yes, we know that it’s not really a “metro”, but a light rail network – but the metro just sounds so much more cosmopolitan and befitting of one of the world’s most expensive cities! After 12 years in the making, the metro is finally opening – to celebrate we’ve created a Tel Aviv Metro Guide with everything you need to know about each Tel Aviv station.


Abba Hillel Metro Station

The main station for Ramat Gan’s Bursa district, home of many of Israel’s top hi-tech companies. Expect this station to be packed in the morning and evening rush hour as Tel Avivis make their way to and from work. Top design college Shenkar is also nearby. There isn’t much else in the area apart from office blocks.

Arlosoroff Metro Station

Currently Tel Aviv’s most northern station, Arlosoroff Metro Station is a short walk from Arlosoroff Train Station and Bus Terminal, with direct lines to Jerusalem, Haifa, and many other major Israeli cities. It’s also the closest current station to Park HaYarkon (although it is still a good 30 minute walk) and the Old North of Tel Aviv.

Sha’ul HaMelech Metro Station

This station is on the intersection of Menachem Begin and Sha’ul Hamelech, and services many important areas such as Midtown and HaKirya. There is also an entrance into the Azrieli Center and HaShalom Train Station, and it’s a short walk to the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, The Israeli Opera House, the Cameri Theater, and Ichilov Hospital. This is also the closest current station to Kikar Rabin and North Ibn Gvirol.

Favourite Bars and Restaurants in the Area: Top chef restaurant Pastel located in the Tel Aviv Museum of Art is a short walk away. Also kosher restaurants Malka, Meatos, and 2C are nearby. Read more.

Yehudit Metro Station

Located in the up-and-coming Montefiore Area of Tel Aviv, this is the closest station to Sarona and Sarona Food Market. It’s also an important business area, with the Azrieli Sarona Tower and Ha’Arbaa Street within a short walking distance.

Favourite Bars and Restaurants in the Area: Sarona Food Market is home to loads of fun restaurants! Top chef restaurants Claro and A Restaurant are also nearby, and kosher resto-bar Whiskey Bar and Museum. Read more.

Carlebach Metro Station

Carlebach station is currently the main station for the Lev Hair (Heart of the City) area of Tel Aviv. TLV Fashion Mall is next to the station entrance, and Shenkin Street and Rothschild Boulevard are a 10 minute walk away. There are also lots of office blocks nearby housing Tel Aviv hi-tech companies. Other local highlights include the Cinematheque, Habima, the Charles Bronfman Auditorium (home to the Israeli philharmonic), and cute park Kiryat Sefer.

Favourite Bars and Restaurants in the Area: There are a few local gems in this area. Delicious bakery Zeit für Brot is a great stop for a delicious pastry, local Thai favourite Onauma and Thai cocktail bar Kab Kem, delicious fish restaurants Abie and Batshon are in the neighbourhood, and celebrity hangout Cafe Tachtit. Allenby Metro Station

We suggest changing the name of this station to the Kuli Alma Metro Station as Exit B opens up right next to our favourite bar. Located in a really cool hipster corner of the city, you can lots of bars and fun restaurants. Backpacker favourite Abraham Hostel is also next to the station – the start place for many amazing tours around Israel and Petra run by Abraham Tours.  Rothschild Boulevard is also a 2-minute walk away.

Favourite Bars and Restaurants in the Area: Kuli Alma and its neighbour Bavel Bar are conveniently located next to Exit B, and live-music venue Levontin 7 and gay bar Layla are a short walk away. Late night clubs Rabbit, Supreme, Jimmy Who? and others are also very close. If you’re in the neighbourhood at lunch time get a delicious Iraqi lunch at Azura, while if you’re looking for a late night snack Indian Saone Rhone, Tex-Mex Taqueria, and French-inspired burger joint 26 Hamburger Gourmet are nearby. Elifelet Metro Station

Exit here for the beach – surfer favourite Jaffa Beach is a ten-minute walk down the newly built Park HaMesila. There’s lots to do in the neighbourhood, including have a beer and pizza in hipster mecca Teder, and take in some culture in Neve Tzedek, HaTachana, and the Suzanne Dellal Dance Center. This is also the closest station to Florentin and Levinsky Market where you’ll find loads of great bars and restaurants.

Favourite Bars and Restaurants in the Area: Tel Aviv institution Teder Bar is close to the station, and there are lots of coffee shops and bars opening up in Park HaMesila. There are high-end restaurants and bars in Neve Tzedek and HaTachana, and for younger vibes head over to Florentin and Levinsky Market – check out our Instagram to find loads of fun places in the area. Shalma (Salame) Metro Station

Near the intersection of Shalma (Salame) Road and Jerusalem Boulevard, this is the point that the metro stops being underground and becomes a Light Rail Network. It’s the closest station to Jaffa Old City, Jaffa Flea Market (Shuk HaPishpeshim), and the Jaffa Port – with many luxury boutique hotels nearby. During the day get lost in the Old City’s narrow streets and find some treasures in the flea market, and in the evening the streets become filled with bars and restaurants.

Favourite Bars and Restaurants in the Area: Chef Restaurant OCD is very close to the station (but you have to reserve 6 months in advance), and the must-visit Itzik HaGadol is nearby – with crazy meat and tonnes of side salads. Other hidden gems  with a short walk from the station include Puaa, chef restaurant Beit Kandinof, and top sushi restaurant Selas. Shuk HaPishpeshim is full of bars and a great place to hang out in the evening.  Read more.

From here the tram heads South down Jerusalem Boulevard, with stops at Bloomfield Station and Ehrlich before continuing to Wolfson Medical Center and Bat Yam.
