Plastic Free Israel is simply an idea, a movement that was started by one person who believes that everyone has the ability to help the environment in one way or another. Plastic pollution is infiltrating our planet at an alarming rate. We’ve produced more plastic in the last ten years than we did in the entire century prior. We’ve created enough waste to fill four Mount Everests. We’re throwing 8 million tones of plastic pollution into our oceans every year – the equivalent of one garbage truck full of trash being dumped into our oceans every minute. Older reports (2015) predict this number will double by 2050, newer reports (2018) say this rate will triple over the next decade. We will have oceans filled with more plastic than fish. Enough is enough.

We say: don’t despair. While the plastic pollution problem needs to be tackled from multiple angles, everyone can be a part of the solution. It comes down to two simple things: 1. Reducing our waste by saying no to single-use plastic items that we can avoid – cups, straws, bottles, lids, bags, plates, silverware and the likes. Alternatives do exist and we’re trying to make it easy to find them here. 2. Picking up trash. It doesn’t have to have been your trash and you don’t have to spend all day doing it – picking up a few pieces here or there is one step towards making a difference. You never know who’s watching and who might join in.

Plastic Free Israel aims to educate, motivate and inspire individuals to be role models for each other. We research and share up-to-date information about pollution in Israel and around the world and are working hard to find partners and products that offer sustainable, locally available solutions and alternatives. We also host cleanups – they’re fun, social and free for all to join.
Plastic Free Israel is not an organization, a non-profit, a business or a charity. We’re a grassroots movement run by some very dedicated volunteers who rely on the wonderful support of our relevant communities (local, international and social media based) and the contribution of companies willing to support our cleanups.

If you’re interested in volunteering, collaborating, hosting a cleanup or just have some ideas for the page – please feel free to contact us. We’re always open to ideas.
