JANUARY
January’s biggest event in Tel Aviv was the torrential rain. What better way to start the Best Posts of Secret Tel Aviv 2022 than a video of the snow in Jerusalem by Noam Kievtiz:
There was also a very cute picture of a dog on a bar by Shahar Rosenstock (this was our most liked post of the year!):
For more animal pictures scroll down to the bottom of this post – we have a whole section because Secret Tel Avivis love their pets!
FEBRUARY
February’s main story was the invasion of Ukraine, and it was also felt in Israel – which has a high Russian and Ukrainian immigrant population. Anton shared a very powerful photo of someone praying at the Western Wall:
As well as praying for Ukraine and a peaceful and speedy resolution to the conflict, Secret Tel Aviv has also been an invaluable resource for immigrants from Ukraine and Russia who have escaped the war. For example, hundreds of people came to the support of Ukrainian immigrant Veronika.
A community highlight was the post from Luz about her new Amapola Alfajores bakery on Ibn Gvirol. Luz is an Argentinean Ola Chadasha who started cooking and selling alfajores using her grandma’s recipe 4 years ago. She started posting in Secret Tel Aviv and her business has grown and grown… we have tried her Alfajores and they are delicious (also check out our Instagram video)!
MARCH
March is all about Purim, and as is the case every year we had some amazing costumes shared to the group like this Tetris costume (turn up the volume)…
For more amazing Purim costumes check out our best Purim Costumes of 2022 post.
There are lots of very smart people in Secret Tel Aviv – well there are a few at least! Geva Kipper did an amazing and insightful data analysis of the best time to park in public carparks around the city:
Parking in Tel Aviv is a nightmare – so much so that we have a whole section at the bottom of this post dedicated to parking.
And now a word from our Community Sponsors Pumba Parking… If you have a car in Tel Aviv, you’ve got to download this app! Pumba lets you know where available on-street parking spots are hiding! Using Pumba sensors that are deployed on balconies, Pumba provides real time status of thousands of parking spots around your house. Install a sensor for free and get a free subscription, and when searching for parking and a spot turns available in front of your house only you will be notified. Order a Pumba parking sensor | Download Pumba and find on-street Parking | Check out the Pumba Parking website.
We also get lots of crazy posts in Secret Tel Aviv – this picture from Moshiko was one of the top posts for February:

APRIL – TERROR ATTACK ON DIZENGOFF
At around 9pm on April 7th a terrorist attacked three locations on Dizengoff Street, killing 3 innocent people and injuring 7 others. As in cases like these, Secret Tel Aviv sprung up to be a vital resource for our members to get information, share stories and experiences, and support each other. There were many beautiful posts in the days that followed, here are some of our favourite.
There’s a beautiful expression in Hebrew “יהי זכרם ברוך” – May their memory be a blessing:
- Moving photos by Nina Shelanski
- Story of hiding in the Cinema Hotel
- Am Yisrael Chai – video from impromptu gathering the next day
- Rather than destroying our spirit, attacks like these bring people together
- Photos from the next day
- An important post about helping businesses on Dizengoff
- Random acts of kindness
- A first hand experience from Ilka bar ❤️
April also includes Pesach and one of the highlights of the passover service is the tale of the four sons – Edith captured a version for Tel Aviv 2022 of the four bicycles:
MAY
Tel Aviv has two seasons a year… rainy season (from December to March) and Summer (from April to November). By May the temperatures were already increasing, and Naor made a very useful map about where you can walk around in Tel Aviv without a t-shirt:
However, the absolute highlight of May was singer Coral Bismuth getting spotted by Adam Levine from Maroon 5… she went on to perform with him on stage in the Maroon 5 concert in Park Hayarkon – what a star 🤩!
Also in May was the Tel Aviv Eat Festival in Charles Clore park. While the event itself wasn’t so memorable, this video of the scooters with Adele’s soundtrack Someone Like You shared by Itay was legendary:
JUNE
Two big things happen in Israel in June… Tel Aviv Pride Week and Big Brother!
Our favourite post from Pride Week was from Lior:
And our favourite post from Big Brother was from Ronny!:
Also in June, Secret Tel Aviv almost started a revolution as a protest movement against high cost of living originating from the group attracted 24k people on a Facebook event. Here at Secret Tel Aviv HQ we didn’t endorse the protest this time… but it’s good to know that when needed this Group can make a difference:
JULY
In July most sensible Tel Avivis pack their suitcases and head out of Israel for the Summer. This year even more people left to avoid the high cost of living in Tel Aviv. This photo by Guy Hoffman says “Huge demonstration at Ben Gurion Airport about the Cost of Living”
July is also prime wedding season in Tel Aviv, we loved this picture from Liron of the ultimate wedding photo-bomb:
There are lots of amazing people in Tel Aviv who care about the environment. Julian Melcer is one of the leading voices, he shared his inspiring story of collecting cigarette butts from Tel Aviv beaches:
AUGUST
By August, no-one is left in the city. For those that are left, life is tough – picture by Yarden Meshulam:
And here’s another cute dog picture:
SEPTEMBER
September’s highlight was the huge sinkhole that appeared on Ayalon highway. It spurred a thousand memes, our favourite was from Kobi – it says “For Rent: Amazing apartment on Derech Hashalom, minutes from the Azrieli – 7,000 NIS!”.
Look at this dog on the bus… aaaaaaaaaah:
Also, two love letters about Tel Aviv:
OCTOBER
In October, the most amazing thing happened… Israelis learned how to queue (for the 7 shekel falafel on King George):
Alon got outed by his phone provider:
Who needs movers anyway?!
NOVEMBER
By November inflation had already started to kick in… the 7 NIS was replaced by the 8 NIS falafel on Allenby (14% month-on-month inflation – Argentina would be proud!):
A lowlight (does this word exist? – it should do) of November – and in fact the whole of 2022 – was the election. Shaked captured the mood perfectly:
It says “maybe Tel Aviv should become an independent country like the Vatican”.
DECEMBER
In December world cup fever took over and just like the inflation everyone became Argentinean.
The beautiful thing about football is that it brings everyone together… like this post from Louie:
And just like Simchat Torah, our story returns to the beginning… with rain:
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year… thank you all for being such an amazing community!
