Kuli Alma - Mikve Yisrael 10, Tel Aviv,
The Harlem Renaissance, which inspired this exhibition, was a cultural awakening among African Americans communities, between the 1920s and the forties. It was an important time of intellectual, social, and artistic expression within African-American communities. Music, art, literature and fashion were used as tools to challenge ongoing racism and stereotypes with the intention of promoting social and racial integration.
This exhibition is a visual reinterpretation that will take you back in time to Harlem during the 1940s. Highlighting emerging themes of music and fashion, Train to Harlem is an attempt to honor and celebrate the beauty in African-American culture during a pivotal time in history.
This project is a collaboration with stylist, Yarden Kalinsky
