Cannonball Adderley’s Immortal Record Tribute to Sixties Bossa Nova Hits with the Lenny Sendersky Quintet

The late fifties and sixties belong to music that comes from Brazil and the Caribbean. Jazz “discovers” Brazil. The mainstays are, among others, Antonio Carlos Jovim and Sergio Mendes. Melancholy bossa-nova next to active samba. And the world dances and listens to this authentic music for the multitude of harmonic possibilities it presents. And that’s exactly what jazz players like: rhythm and rich harmony to improvise on.

In the early sixties, Cannonball Adderley spends a vacation in Brazil, is impressed by the new style that is sweeping the world and decides to record the best hits of that time such as:

“Minha Saudade”, “Corcovado”, “Batida Differente”, and other hits.

סוף שנות החמישים ושנות השישים שייכות למוסיקה שמגיעה מברזיל ומהאיים הקריביים. הג’אז “מגלה” את ברזיל. עמודי התווך הם בין היתר אנטוניו קרלוס ז’ובים וסרג’יו מנדס. בוסה-נובה מלנכולית לצד סמבה אקטיבית. והעולם רוקד וגם מאזין למוסיקה האותנטית הזו על שלל האפשרויות ההרמוניות שהיא מציגה. וזה בדיוק מה שנגני ג’אז אוהבים: קצב והרמוניה עשירה לאלתר עליה.

בתחילת שנות השישים מבלה קנונבול אדרלי חופשה בברזיל, מתרשם מהסגנון החדש ששוטף את העולם ומחליט להקליט את מיטב הלהיטים של אז כמו:

“Minha Saudade”, “Corcovado”, “Batida Differente”, ולהיטים נוספים.
