The Wild Swans // The Wild Swans

A solo exhibition by Talia Raz

In the exhibition “The Wild Swans” will show Talia Raz an integrated artwork that will be spread across the entire wall area and will include oil paintings on canvas, murals that will surround the fabrics and connect them with a screening of video performance work. The result will create a total environment, a kind of forest where all parts are intertwined and nourished.

The name “The Wild Swans” is taken from a legendary title by Hans Christian Andersen, in which a curse is placed on twelve brothers who become swans. Their sister rescues them from the curse with cloaks sewn from nettles, but the Twelfth Brother has not been able to sew one sleeve to his robe and he is left with a white swan wing instead of his right arm. The film, as well as the oil paintings, depicts a scene of a tangled forest in which a man / swan lives.

Talia Raz is not interested in the redeeming sister, but the younger brother who failed to remove the curse completely. Its hybrid identity captivates her and she builds a fairy tale / hallucination narrative in which she embodies the swan identity and builds herself a nest of twigs and branches in a stream of water in the forest, where she also falls asleep in an act of calm and completion.

Talia Raz works inspired by the German expressionist painting of the 1930s, as well as the neo-expressionism of the 1980s: deep, deep color, intense brushwork, material and emotional compression, a strong closeness to nature, and a fervor of alertness that permeate and permeate the fabric of nature. At the same time, her painting revolves around questions of hybrid identity, and acceptance and love for an alternative life. Raz builds the exhibit itself as an experience of walking in the woods, in the hope that the exhibition will create an emotional and sensible baggage for visitors.
