A contemporary art event on the occasion of the celebration of the Ethiopian prayer festival. The best artists from the Ethiopian community will present works of sculpture, photography, dance, video, and music, including tastings of traditional Ethiopian food

*In case of rain, the event will be postponed to another time*

Sigd is one of the most important holidays of the Ethiopian community, the Beta Israel community. This is an ancient holiday that has been established and celebrated in Ethiopian Jewish tradition for hundreds and even thousands of years. The meaning of the holiday is the renewal of the covenant between the people and God, honoring and renewing the status of Mount Sinai and accepting the Torah.

During this event the participating artists will present works of art in a variety of mediums that combine reference to the tradition of the Ethiopian community with commentary, sometimes subversive, that refers to their personal lives and Israeli society in general.

The event is initiated by Moshe Tarka, an Israeli artist and social activist of Ethiopian origin and the owner of the exhibition space ‘Shabazi 58’ in Neve Tzedek. Its purpose is to give a platform to contemporary artists from the community to display their unique art. The event includes tastings of traditional Ethiopian food, foods and drinks that will be served especially this evening in restaurants in Neve Tzedek.

Location: Neve Tzedek
