On Wednesday, 28.4, shortly after Independence Day, we will screen a documentary in Shapira of director Yuli Cohen’s new film – “Our Natural Right”. After the film there will be an open conversation with her.
More than seven decades ago, members of the People’s Council drafted the Declaration of Independence of the State of Israel. Every word and every comma led to an hour-long argument. The scroll was signed, the state was established, but seventy years later, the debate is still ongoing.
In the film “Our Natural Right”, the grandchildren of the signatories of the Declaration of Independence return to the hall in Tel Aviv where the scroll was signed.
Who are the descendants of the founders of the state? What do they think today about the scroll signed by their grandparents? Will they agree on one right way for her?
Our natural right brings up a new discussion of the issues that Jewish society in Israel has not yet decided, more than seventy years after it first tried to do so.

A documentary in Shapira has been opening every Wednesday at Cafe Shapira for several years. Israeli documentaries are screened and their creators are hosted for an open conversation with the audience, all on a voluntary and non-profit basis.

ברביעי, 28.4, מעט אחרי יום העצמאות, נקרין בדוקומנטרי בשפירא את סרטה החדש של הבמאית יולי כהן – “זכותנו הטבעית”.
לאחר הסרט תתקיים שיחה פתוחה עמה.
לפני למעלה משבעה עשורים ניסחו חברי מועצת העם את מגילת העצמאות של מדינת ישראל. כל מילה וכל פסיק גררו ויכוח בן שעות. המגילה נחתמה, המדינה הוקמה, אבל שבעים שנה אחרי, הוויכוח עדיין נמשך.
בסרט זכותנו הטבעית חוזרים נכדיהם ונכדותיהם של חותמי מגילת העצמאות
לאולם בתל אביב שבו נחתמה המגילה.
מי הם הצאצאים של מקימי המדינה? מה הם חושבים היום על המגילה שחתמו סביהם וסבתותיהן? האם יסכימו על דרך נכונה אחת עבורה?
זכותנו הטבעית מעלה לדיון מחודש את הסוגיות שהחברה היהודית בישראל טרם הכריעה בהן, למעלה משבעים שנה אחרי שניסתה לעשות זאת בפעם הראשונה.
