Esty Shushan looks like a full-fledged ultra-Orthodox: eldest sister out of 12 brothers, daughter of a rabbi, whose children studied at ultra-Orthodox institutions. For years she wrote articles under a man’s name and remained silent in the face of a reality that does not allow ultra-Orthodox women to be elected to the Knesset. One day she stops being silent and starts a brave fight with her friends to change the historical ban and free 600,000 women. Esty’s revolution is creating winds of change in ultra-Orthodox society, but when she went into the struggle 8 years ago, she did not foresee the personal price she would have to pay.

After the screening, a conversation with the creator Anna Somershaf is a director and producer of documentary films. Her film “Army Woman” premiered at the Jerusalem Festival in 2021 and participated in many festivals in Israel and abroad. She directed the film “Holyland” and the series “Jihad Now” (Channel One) and produced several documentaries and international projects. Anna is a graduate with honors from the film department at Sapir College and a master’s degree in cultural studies at Tel Aviv University. In addition to her film work, she teaches documentary filmmaking at Beit Berel College and serves as a lecturer at various foundations.

שמחות להמשיך בחודש “שיעורים באזרחות” ולהתארח בבית אריאלה עם סרטה של אנה סומרשף “אשת חיל”

אסתי שושן נראית כמו חרדית מן המניין: אחות בכורה מתוך 12 אחים, בת של רב, שילדיה למדו במוסדות חרדיים. שנים היא כתבה מאמרים תחת שם של גבר ושתקה מול מציאות שלא מאפשרת לנשים חרדיות להיבחר לכנסת. יום אחד היא מפסיקה לשתוק ויוצאת למאבק אמיץ עם חברותיה כדי לשנות את האיסור ההסטורי ולשחרר 600,000 נשים. המהפכה של אסתי יוצרת רוחות של שינוי בחברה החרדית, אך כשיצאה למאבק לפני 8 שנים, היא לא צפתה את המחיר האישי שהיא תאלץ לשלם.

לאחר ההקרנה שיחה עם היוצרת אנה סומרשף היא במאית ומפיקה של סרטים דוקומנטרים. סרטה “אשת חיל” הוקרן בבכורה בפסטיבל ירושלים ב-2021 והשתתף בפסטיבלים רבים בארץ ובחו”ל. היא ביימה את הסרט “הולילנד”, ואת הסדרה “ג’יהאד עכשיו” (הערוץ הראשון) והפיקה מספר סרטים דוקומנטרים ופרויקטים בינלאומיים. אנה היא בוגרת בהצטיינות של המחלקה לקולנוע במכללת ספיר ותואר שני במחקר תרבות באוניברסיטת ת”א. בנוסף ליצירתה הקולנועית, היא מלמדת קולנוע דוקומנטרי במכללת בית ברל ומשמשת כלקטורית בקרנות השונות.
