In a normal year, at this point, we would be running around the country with our best poets and start preparing for our annual final event – the Grand Slam.
But Hamas had other plans, and we considered doing the mature thing: canceling all plans, getting under the blanket and seeing each other again in next year’s final.
However, it was an ancient wise old man who once said that when it’s all over – all that will survive the apocalypse will be the cockroaches, and the spoken word. And we are determined to make a better impression than the cockroaches.
On 8/1 we start the traditional qualifying stage: the best poets of 2023 will go up to a festive and exciting evening – when only one of them will get to go to the coveted Grand Slam!

בשנה נורמלית, בשלב הזה, היינו אמורים להתרוצץ באטרף ברחבי המדינה עם מיטב משוררינו ולהתחיל להתכונן לאירוע הגמר השנתי שלנו – הסלאם הגדול.
אבל לחמאס היו תכניות אחרות, ואנחנו שקלנו לעשות את הדבר הבוגר: לבטל את כל התכניות, להיכנס מתחת לשמיכה ולהתראות שוב בגמר של שנה הבאה.
עם זאת, היה זה זקן חכם עתיק שאמר פעם שכשהכל ייגמר – כל מה שישרוד את האפוקליפסה יהיה הג’וקים, והספוקן וורד. ואנחנו נחושים לעשות רושם יותר טוב מהג’וקים.
ב-8/1 אנחנו מתחילים את שלב המוקדמות המסורתי: מיטב המשוררים והמשוררות של 2023 יעלו לערב חגיגי ומותח – כאשר רק אחד מהם יזכה לעלות לסלאם הגדול הנכסף!
