Rare are the books that cannot be translated into the digital space and that themselves constitute a thesis for the importance of physical spaces within the literary field – i.e. – a printed book, holding hands, a launch in a circular sitting and a meeting of book creators and book lovers in a store full of books. Also rare are the books that are read in pairs, in groups, as part of a broad discussion about the medium and their literary family.
Such is “Pantum” – and its launch, accordingly, will be heart- and horizon-expanding, sensual and tactile!
Pantum is a wordless story that describes a relationship between a girl and a monstrous creature that suddenly emerges from a pit opening in her home and life. The book, as an object, is not only used as a container. The format and the way of browsing, which were researched, put together and adapted to the story, are visual tools. The relationship created between them and the illustrations affects the atmosphere of the story and the meanings arising from it.
The “silent” story in which metaphors and archetypes are interwoven, moves from the personal to the universal, allows for broad interpretation and appropriation and offers the reader a source of identification and perhaps even consolation.
