Orfeo mourns the death of his wife Euridice. He calls his dead wife and in his desperation decides to follow her to ask. Amor, the god of love, arrives and informs the unfortunate Orfeo that the gods allow him to enter Saul alive. If he succeeds with his poetry in convincing the spirits that protect the dead in the underworld, he will even be able to bring Eurydice back to life and return with her to the world of the living. But Orfeo must meet one condition: he must not look Euridice in the face until she returns to the land of the living.
