“A Love Letter to Myself” is the first solo exhibition of Rachel Anyo: photographer, multidisciplinary artist and social activist from Kiryat Yam.
At the center of her work, Anyo deals with identity and brings an authentic, unique and layered voice that expands the discussion and perspective on contemporary Ethiopian-Israeli art. Her work draws inspiration from sources of folklore art and tradition on the one hand, and on the other hand is connected to the contemporary digital space in the global era, from which Enyo draws inspiration and sustains itself.
The works in the exhibition begin from the artist’s biography: from her personal family album, an archive which she examines and turns into raw material through which a personal identity crisis and the generation gap between the immigrants from Ethiopia and their children who were born in Israel are reflected.
The works in the exhibition continue to develop and deepen in more critical and universal contexts regarding the specific identity of the color of the skin, its texture, the female body, black, as containing a restless soul in a constant search to create its own home, language, identity, place in the world.

Rachel Anyo is a photographer, multidisciplinary artist and social activist from Kiryat Yam. Graduated from Mansher College of Art, Tel Aviv, with honors. In her works she deals with issues related to identity, blackness, gender, community and family. Anio works with diverse techniques, mainly direct and manipulated photography, manual and digital collages, video and sculpture. Exhibited in many group exhibitions in Israel.

“מכתב אהבה לעצמי” היא תערוכת היחיד הראשונה של רחל אניו: צלמת, אמנית רב תחומית ופעילה חברתית מקרית-ים.
במרכז יצירתה עוסקת אניו בזהות ומביאה קול אותנטי, ייחודי ומרובד המרחיב את הדיון והמבט על אמנות אתיופית-ישראלית עכשווית. עבודתה שואבת השראה ממקורות של אמנות פולקלור ומסורת מחד, ומאידך מחוברת למרחב הדיגיטלי העכשווי בעידן הגלובלי, ממנו שואבת אניו השראה ומתקיימת.
העבודות בתערוכה מתחילות מהביוגרפיה של האמנית: מאלבום המשפחה האישי שלה, ארכיון אותו היא בוחנת והופכת לחומר גלם דרכו משתקף משבר זהות אישי ופער הדורות בין המהגרים מאתיופיה לילדיהם שנולדו בישראל.
עיניים מופיעות כמוטיב חוזר בעבודותיה. העיניים של אניו מוכפלות, צופות, עדות, מצלמות, שומרות. הן עיניים פקוחות לרווחה על העולם המערבי הלבן, הפטריארכלי והגזען, אך בד בבד פונות גם פנימה אל הנפש. כוח ופגיעות מתקיימים בד בבד בכל עבודה.
העבודות בתערוכה ממשיכות להתפתח ולהעמיק בהקשרים ביקורתיים ואוניברסליים יותר לגבי הזהות הספציפית של צבע העור מרקמו, הגוף הנשי, השחור, כמו מכיל נפש חסרת מנוח בחיפוש מתמיד ליצור לה בית, שפה, זהות, מקום משלה בעולם.

רחל אניו היא צלמת, אמנית רב תחומית ופעילה חברתית מקריית-ים. בוגרת מכללת מנשר לאמנות, תל אביב, בהצטיינות. בעבודותיה היא עוסקת בנושאים הקשורים בזהות, שחורות, מגדר, קהילה ומשפחה. אניו עובדת בטכניקות מגוונות, בעיקר בצילום ישיר ומטופל, קולאז’ים ידניים ודיגיטלים, וידאו ופיסול. הציגה בתערוכות קבוצתיות רבות בישראל.
