During these turbulent times, we are happy to host an event to talk, laugh and maybe cry about current events in Israel.

What’s the plan?
A sneak preview into a documentary work-in-progess called “My Private Settlement”:
A left-wing comedian from Tel Aviv tries to win back his only inheritance: a tiny piece of land in the occupied West Bank that was taken over by Jewish settlers.

After watching a sequence from the film, we will hold an open discussion with the filmmakers and Ulpan Bayit’s politics expert Omer Benjakob:
Can a comedy about the occupation be done in 2023 Israel? Is it OK to laugh at such a complex subject?
Throughout the event, the audience will get an in-depth explanation of the history of the conflict, the sociopolitical status in the Palestinian territories today, and also a behind-the-scenes look at the nuts & bolts of the system.

Irmy Shik Blum is a director, writer, and comedian. In addition to regularly publishing articles in the Israeli press, Shik Blum had a weekly column in the Haaretz weekend magazine.
Shik Blum has written and appeared in many comedy programs on Israeli prime time, including the acclaimed satire program “Eretz Nehederet”.
Currently, he is finishing his first documentary film, “My private settlement” produced by Freemantle.

Omer Banjakob is a senior edito at Haaretz.com, a known speaker about Israeli politics, and a researcher about the politics of knowledge in the digital age and disinformation.

Location: Ulpan Bayit, Ha-Rav Yitskhak Yedidya Frenkel St 43, Tel Aviv
