We will screen the movie “My father, Yaakov Shabtai” and have an open conversation with the filmmaker.

The day after my father’s death, the following news appeared in the newspaper: “The writer Yaakov Shabtai died suddenly of a heart attack, at his home in Tel Aviv. He left a wife and two student daughters.” I was an eight-month-old baby at the time, but nothing about my existence was mentioned in the news. Apparently the person who wrote it chose not to mention that the late author left behind another daughter, born to him from his lover, with whom he had an affair while he was married.
33 years later, I embark on a journey following my father, through the stages of his life and the words he wrote, trying to piece together his character, to understand the relationship he had with my mother and my identity as a child born out of wedlock.
A film about love, memory, and the blurred border between life and creation.

למחרת מותו של אבא שלי הופיעה בעיתון הידיעה הבאה: “הסופר יעקב שבתאי נפטר באופן פתאומי מהתקף לב, בביתו בתל אביב. השאיר אישה ושתי בנות סטודנטיות”. אני הייתי אז תינוקת בת שמונה חודשים, אך דבר קיומי לא צוין בידיעה. כנראה שמי שכתב אותה בחר שלא לציין שהסופר המנוח השאיר אחריו בת נוספת, שנולדה לו מאהובתו, עמה ניהל רומן בעודו נשוי.
33 שנים אחרי, אני יוצאת למסע בעקבות אבא שלי, דרך תחנות חייו והמילים שכתב, בניסיון להרכיב את דמותו, להבין את הקשר שניהל עם אמא שלי ואת זהותי כילדה שנולדה מחוץ לנישואין.
סרט על אהבה, זיכרון, והגבול המטושטש בין חיים ליצירה.
