Louis Prima was an actor, singer, band leader and above all: a songwriter.

Born in the early 20th century, Prima encountered many different musical styles such as boogie, blues, swing, 1940’s “jump blues” and most of all, the wonderful music of New Orleans. Born to an Italian immigrant family, Prima was raised on Italian songs of the old country, later in life incorporating their melodies into the rhythms and styles of New Orleans. His most famous recording, though not an original composition, was Just A Gigolo.

In this show, the fabulous dixie-swing Steps Jazz Band from Hungary will be joined by Singer Anat Czarny for some of the songs. Among others they will perform: Just A Gigolo, Cheek to Cheek, Mambo Italiano, and Americano.

The Jazz Steps Band is a Hungarian swing and jazz band. They have a repertoire composed of New Orleans, as well as later Chicago Style and Swing from the “Golden Age” of swing in the 30’s and 40’s and the beloved music of giants such as Count Basey, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman.

The band routinely incorporates Hungarian folk music in their contemporary dixie-swing arrangements. They perform regularly at leading Jazz Festivals around the world.
