The electro fusion galactic from Addis Ababa premieres at Barby

Kutu, a groove bomb consisting of Ethiopian trance combined with bright electronic jazz, was born in Addis Ababa at the end of 2019, when the Parisian Theo Sasaldi, a multi-instrumentalist came to explore the roots of the traditional Hazmari sounds and the local sound: in a series of meetings with artists from the region and following a journey in the underground scene in the nights of 2020, when In a background full of active youth absorbing the music of their ancestors in order to free themselves, Sasaldi met the singer Ivan Gabrelwald, and from there the matter was sparked.

Together, they combined the contemporary Ethiopian poetry, the tribal rhythms, and the vocal improvisation into a tide of energetic voices from the worlds of punk and with the support of an immersive lineup: electro-cosmic synthetics, classical tribal percussion, Ethiopian violin, mesmerizing bass, dances from the soul and voices from another planet. This is Kutu’s party

Rare are the times when you meet a level of fusion that has an impressive range in its breadth, and is still very tight, as if all the nutrients of music had been melted into a modern and independent genre. We are anticipating one of the most special performances that can be caught today that will fulfill all the promise here for such a live that will resonate for a long time to come
