Contact Improv is a form of improvised dance that developed in the 1970s in the USA and contains an investigation of the body in relation to others by using the principles of weight distribution, touch and conscious movement.
“Contact improvisation is similar to familiar forms of duets such as martial arts, surfing, wrestling, jitterbug, which contains a wide range of movement from immobility to intense athleticism” (Nancy Stark Smith)
Jam Contact is a space that enables a meeting between people who are interested in exploring and experimenting with improvisation on the move with people with different abilities and movement limitations. Sometimes accompanied by improvised live music.
Usually at the contact association’s jams we will start with a movement session led by an experienced teacher whose goal is to give tools and inspiration for the jam. The space is open to anyone who wants to experience it. No prior experience or abilities or limitations are necessary.
