The Israel Festival is proud to present its 58th edition with a rich program of leading Israeli and international artists and challenging works that blur the boundaries of discourse, bringing together dance, music, theatre, performance, and video art.
This year, the artistic program focuses on the search for an intercultural identity, fluid identity, and loss of identity, from both familiar and new perspectives.
On its 58th iteration, the festival continues to combine contemporary content with surprising adaptations and performances inspired by masterpieces, as well as world premieres of original Israeli productions alongside premieres by renowned international performers and creators.
Selected highlights:
– Beats Per Second – in the festival’s special opening event and a one night only original production, Gilad Kahana brings the top beat makers in the Israeli music scene on one stage. A lineup of musical artists and producers that play with text and sound, fringe and mainstream, in a thrilling event that starts with an open-air concert at the Jerusalem Theatre plaza and continues deep into the night on the Sherover Hall stage! ~ full details on the festival’s website
– The Swedish Cullberg Ballet visits the festival with two works – a piece by Deborah Hay with original music composed by Laurie Anderson and a techno tribal dance by one of the most intriguing contemporary choreographs, Jefta Van Dinther.
– Laurence Olivier Award recipient, choreographer Robyn Orlin, with a poignant look at South African cultural and gender identity and profound questions about real freedom in post-Apartheid South Africa.
– Performance artist Steven Cohen with a chilling farewell to his partner Elu.
– Philippe Quesne (La Mélancolie des dragons) returns to the festival with The Night of the Moles – a rock party at a parallel underworld, in an adult version and a version for families.
– Brazilian choreographer Marcelo Evelin and five performers painted black from head to toe, in a piece inspired by Nobel laureate Elias Canetti’s book Crowds and Power
– Celebrating 400 year to the birth of Rabbi Shalom Shabazi in the magical atmosphere of the Tower of David, with Berry Sakharof, Ester Rada, Liron Amram, Miri Mesika, and Sagiv Cohen.
– Songs of Lear – Song of the Goat Theatre (Poland) presents a show inspired by Shakespeare’s timeless play accompanied by live music
– Matt – An original adaptation for adults of Janusz Korczak’s book King Matt the First by Zvi Sahar and Itim Ensemble.
– The Planets – a special production marking the centennial of Gustav Holst’s The Planets performed by MultiPiano Ensemble and Tremolo Percussion Ensemble
– The Revolution Orchestra in a musical journey in the footsteps of legends who are no longer with us: John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Édith Piaf, Luciano Pavarotti, Freddie Mercury and others
– Romeo and Juliet – Elad Theatre offers a site-specific adaptation to the Shakespearean classic, inviting you to be a guest at the party – eat, drink and dance to live music, as you witness the impossible drama of Romeo and Juliet, one of the greatest love stories in western culture.
– Clipa Theatre invites the audience to gaze down on the street from a rooftop in the heart of the city in a piece that blends into the busy urban space and explores suspicion, imagination, and interpretation.
– The Great Gehenna Choir with Tikun Chatsot – a vocal journey in the trails of David Avidan’s mystic poem.
– Happy Metal – a comedic rock concert for children by DAVAI group.

Shuttles
This year, every Thursday throughout the festival, a round-trip shuttle service departing from Tel Aviv, Beersheba, and Haifa will be available to festival visitors.
