Benayahu Roi Ashkenazi, a graduate of the Rimon School of Music, won second place in the competition for the outstanding jazz musician, studied at the jazz institute course while serving in the military as an outstanding musician, repented after the military service and today is a Chassid living in Breslav in Safed.
Since his conversion, he severed his ties with all of his friends who grew up (one of whom is the great drummer – Ofri Nehemiah), delved into Torah study in Jerusalem, Or Haganoz and Safed, and hardly played.
About a year ago, he founded a Hassidic trio, but he did not forget his first love. And here, what many have been waiting for happens – he returns to his childhood friends, to his home – to jazz.
In this one-off and special show, the ensemble will play standards, original pieces in arrangements of Hasidic tunes, and a host of other surprises.
