The works at the exhibition at At are seeking to think and respond to the fate of works of art after their display, when they return to their place in the studio or to their creation before the exhibition. They send arms in space and time to continuous moments of formation: future and past existence coexist, instead of seeking to release the work of art from one moment to another.
Works do not suddenly emerge in the gallery space and die with their departure: they roll, stretch, err, and shirt again. Their presence in the exhibition is a kind of still image, the freezing of a carefully chosen moment.
When not displayed, the wave of the page running simultaneously forward and backward is created back to the artist: for it are part of a sequence of actions and processes that are related to the creation of the work. It also includes the tools, frames, materials, and electronic devices used to create them, as well as the way the works exist and live outside their creative range – as a set of patterns, speakers, papers, masking tape and iron bars. These are varying modes of life that exist between the aspiration for eternal life and preservation – and temporary works whose future is documentation and death.
The artists participating in the exhibition have worked together over the past year in studio meetings and discussions, thinking about the shadowy, hidden and reflective state of their art practice when it is far from the gallery lights. The works in the exhibition move on the axis between the byproducts of the creative activities and the elements used for storage and transport, through bodies built to produce sculptures and processes designed for reflection after the work was created, and until the damage that was added over time to the heart of the work itself.
