Do mind-altering substances have the power to change our political position? Do they have the power to push for social change?
The psychedelic renaissance taking place in recent years holds many hopes for liberation from personal and social patterns. In this lecture we will understand how substances such as LSD, DMT, psilocybin, mescaline and MDMA affect our brain, and we will see how this effect translates into behavioral, psychological and personality change. We will use this understanding to review the history of psychedelic substances as agents of social change, and delve into the current research on the subject. In the lecture, we will devote a special place to the psychedelic experience in the context of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and we will ask ourselves whether those materials have the power to create a space of renewed understanding about the political-national-social narrative of the other.
about the lecturer
Dr. Itamar Cohen is a clinical psychologist from Great Britain. He specializes in treatment with the help of mind-altering substances and intervention programs in humanitarian settings. He holds a doctorate in clinical psychology from University College London (UCL) and is a member of the British Institute for Psychedelic Therapy (https://instituteofpsychedelictherapy.org/). In recent years, Itamar has been lecturing about the relationship between psychedelic substances, their biological and mental effects, and the social changes shaping this relationship.
