“Daniel Auerbach” is the big winner at the Jerusalem Film Festival
12 years have passed since Daniel’s first and successful film, a 48-year-old bachelor. The producer and investors are losing their patience, and he is getting lost in a world of ideas and texts. What was supposed to be a personal script about the process of his leaving religion turns into an obsessive manifesto of hundreds of pages and dozens of hours of recordings about the pains of Jewish and Israeli identity.
Daniel clings to his apartment like a fortress, disconnects from the outside world and writes and records himself around the clock, at the expense of his personal life. His friends worry about him, his producer leaves him, his lover breaks up with him, the landlord is fed up with him. Only when the sword is literally on his neck does he manage to let go of the desperate attempt to control the story of his life
