A colorful Afro-Brazilian carnival orchestra. Black Samba is Bloc Afro, a group of rhythm and movement artists, specializing in the samba-reggae style that originated in northern Brazil. The black slaves who arrived in the state of Salvador de Bahia in Brazil brought with them black music from Africa, which mixed with the local music and created this rough, tribal and powerful Afro-Brazilian style. This style was celebrated at carnival in the north of the country, and Black Samba imported it to Israel and gave it an Israeli interpretation. Wind instruments, a variety of drums, a singer and movement artists participate in our colorful celebration. In a performance of original work and arrangements of Israeli and Brazilian songs.

From the beginning of the sixties, samba styles flourished in all their shades, in Brazil as well as in the world. These styles brought Brazilian music to the world, becoming an important production channel for local musicians such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Joao Gilberto, Joao Donato, Addison Machado, Raul de Souza and Sergio Mendes, among many others. It can be said that these musicians renewed their Brazilian identity through the samba tradition, the national rhythm that characterizes Brazil whose origins date back to the first decades of the twentieth century, when music was first considered a central element in the construction of Brazilian identity.

Samba can be considered a historical movement for the integration of freed slaves into the young societies of the Americas after World War II. These styles were part of the construction of black culture and black music.

The samba of the band from Israel “Black Samba” brings the mixing of styles on the multitude of musical instruments and of course its diverse percussion division. The band mixes the roots samba styles – with the Yemenite, eastern roots that began to flourish in Israel in the 1950s until today. This combination is unique in the music and rhythm landscape of Israel.

The Latin American Festival in Tel Aviv will be held on March 7-8-9, 2024 at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, 27 Shaul Hamelech Ave.
