“Uncle Yanko” (1968, 19 min.)
A short and captivating film by Anies Varda, the first she shot in the USA. Varda documents in her creative and personal way her meeting with the Greek-American artist Jean Varda, a distant relative whom she has never met. Anies writes a humanistic portrait of the lost uncle, who lives in a boat off the coast of San Francisco, which is a great example of her human-loving cinema.
“Misses from Rochefort” (1967, 125 min.)
A timeless musical about missed connections and a second chance, an optimistic, lively and more lively variation than his previous film “Cherbourg Umbrellas”. Sisters Catherine Deneuve and Françoise Dureliac star as twins Delphine and Solange from the quiet port city of Rochefort. When the fair comes to town and a dreamy sailor is looking for the love of his life, this is their chance to fulfill their dreams of love and adventure in the big city.
Combined with Michel Legrand’s delightful soundtrack, the colorful cinematography and the magical ensemble of actors (including a fine performance by Gene Kelly), “The Misses of Rochefort” is a cinematic celebration and an unforgettable tribute from the director with the widest heart in France to the classic Hollywood musical films.
