Again I’m taking my “calling card”, the very first and most favorite excursion – around AJAMI!

Ajami, a little-known area south of Jaffa port, captivated me six years ago. Since then, I’ve been exploring its abandoned mansions and forever-closed churches and watching as the area takes on new life.

Very soon, with the help of French millionaires, quiet streets with ancient doors will turn into a second Jaffa. It will become safer, noisier, cleaner and more beautiful, but something will disappear forever.

We will meet at the port of Jaffa and head south. Fashionable Andromeda, a Jewish cemetery, a Coptic hotel, an Arab kindergarten, local “sellers of prohibited goods”, electrification of the country and King George the Fifth – we will talk about everything and see.

I will tell you why there are so many strange churches in Jaffa, I will tell you about the connection between the Russian revolution and the orchards around Jaffa, I will remind you who Ajami is, I will guide you along the British bridge, I will advise the right place to buy aspirin, I will explain the principle of building the “Lebanon”, I will remember the godfather of the Swedish king and perhaps you will also buy fresh fish and a new “device for harm to health.” I can’t write many words directly – FB rules prohibit calling life phenomena by their proper names.

We meet on Saturday at 10 00 in the port of Jaffa near the Dayagim restaurant (also known as the Fisherman’s Restaurant), where there are public toilets.

Снова провожу мою “визитную карточку”, самую первую и самую любимую экскурсию – по АДЖАМИ!

Аджами, малоизвестный район к югу от Яффского порта, покорил меня шесть лет назад. С тех пор я изучаю его заброшенные особняки и вечно закрытые церкви и наблюдаю за тем, как район обретает новую жизнь.

Совсем скоро силами французских миллионеров тихие улочки со старинными дверьми превратятся во второй Яффо. Станет безопаснее, шумнее, чище и красивее, но что-то исчезнет навсегда.

Мы встретимся в порту Яффо и отправимся на юг. Фешенебельная Андромеда, еврейское кладбище, коптская гостиница, арабский детский садик, местные “продавцы запрещенных товаров”, электрификация страны и король Георг Пятый – обо всем мы поговорим, и увидим.

Я расскажу, откуда в Яффо столько странных церквей, поведаю о связи русской революции с фруктовыми садами вокруг Яффо, напомню, кто такой Аджами, проведу по британскому мосту, посоветую правильное место для покупки аспирина, объясню принцип строительства “ливана”, вспомню крестного отца шведского короля и возможно, вы еще купите свежей рыбы и новый “прибор для вреда здоровью”. Не могу писать многие слова прямо – правила ФБ запрешают называть жизненные явления своими именами.

Встречаемся в субботу в 10 00 в порту Яффо около ресторана “Даягим” (он же – “Рыбацкий ресторан”), там же находятся общественные туалеты.
