SHAVUOT ON THURSDAY 🎉

High holiday to celebrate when the Jews received the Torah!

On Thursday night and Friday we celebrate Shavuot – where the Jews celebrate receiving the Torah on Mount Sinai by eating cheesecake! Shavuot also means weeks in Hebrew, and the holiday marks seven weeks since Pesach. There are loads of parties and communal cheesecake feasts to celebrate the holiday, and also all night learning sessions in local synagogues – check out our Shavuot Guide for loads of great events!

SHAVUOT DINNERS 🧀

Thursday: Communal dinners to meet new people and eat delicious food

The Olim-friendly synagogues are in full swing with loads of communal dinners on Thursday night! The Tel Aviv International Synagogue hostx a lavish dairy and cheesecake feast followed all night learning and a sunrise service on the beach; Chabad on the Coast hosts a dairy buffet followed by all-night learning pods (they also host an ice-cream party on Friday); and JTLV hosts Sleepless in Tel Aviv with a dairy banquet and all night learning. SHAVUOT PARTIES 💃

Loads of big parties on Thursday night and Friday day

Tel Avivi’s don’t need much excuse for a party, but a chag is definitely a great one! There are loads of fun parties in Tel Aviv on Thursday night (highlights include Shavuot at Ozen and Lost Shavuot at BSide) and Friday afternoon (Blues and Booz Fest at Kuli and Motivo Positivo at Teder); plus a few festivals outside of Tel Aviv. CHEESECAKE 🍰

Where to get your mouth around some delicious creamy cake

No-one quite knows the origin of eating cheesecake on Shavuot, but we’re glad it happened anyway! Our favourite Tel Aviv deli Delicatessen hosts a huge cheese fair on Thursday at Beit Panorama; for more great cakes check out the amazing Magazinno cake shop (check out our Instagram video) and our favourite Cafe Xoho also make a delicious cheesecake (Instagram video).

Opening of a new graffiti wall in Jaffa + huge hip hop party!

Join Ennis Cultural Center and the U.S. Embassy Jerusalem for a grand party unveiling Jaffa’s giant Graffiti Wall. Created by 40+ local residents led by renowned American artists PEYTON and AM, this community project embraces cultural diversity and empowers through art. UNIVERSITY OPEN DAY 🎓

Tuesday: Tel Aviv University offers 60 programs in English, with loads of scholarships

Are you burning with curiosity? Do you never take the simple answer for granted? Tel Aviv University could be the perfect place for you! They host a huge open day this Tuesday at their campus to showcase their undergraduate programs, and TAU Lowy International School will also be there waiting for you! It’s also a great opportunity to learn more about their Summer Programs including their famous Summer Ulpan and their TESOL program. OUTDOOR CINEMA 🎞️

Wednesday: Free outdoor screening of classic Dirty Dancing at the Namal

Every Wednesday during the months of May-June (10.5 to 21.6), Tel Aviv Port is offering free outdoor movie screenings of some classic musical films from the last decade on a giant screen under the stars. DREAMING HOUSE 🎨

Wednesday: An immersive group exhibition from KakdelArt community

Check out the final exhibition of 20 talented artists from KakdelArt community in their Jaffa art residence. Transformed into immersive spaces, each of the 10 rooms of a beautiful old building near Jaffa Shuk reflects the artist’s mind and dreams. Sneak Peek into one of art pieces at the exhibition – here. Saturday: American standup comedian Nikki Glaser performs in Tel Aviv

If inappropriate, raunchy humor is your cup of tea, you will absolutely kvell over Nikki Glaser! She is one of the most prominent comedians in the new generation of stand-up, and comes to Israel for the first time performing at Charles Bronfman this Saturday. CONCERTS OF THE WEEK 🎸

Craving live music? We’ve got you covered!

This week is packed with amazing musical performances! On Tuesday, legendary Israeli metal band, Orphaned Land, will be jamming out to celebrate a decade of their album “All is One” at Reading 3. There’s more! The temple of Israeli rock and roll fame, Barby, has two very happening concerts; the talented purple puppet of Red Band returns to the stage for an electric stand-up show on Wednesday, and Noga Erez will be singing her heart out to her latest pop hits (including songs featuring Missy Elliot!) this Saturday. Tons and tons of shopping happening this week that you will want to be checking out! Vintage and thrifting lovers – this one’s for you – on Saturday, and in the holiday spirit, Vuvalle Market is back at Park Hatachana for a Shavuot fair. Not only will you find over 20 second-hand booths of the absolute coolest clothes and accessories, but there will also be wine, cheese and music to help you shop til you drop. PLACE OF THE WEEK: TEDER 🪩

Tel Aviv’s trendiest hot spot!

From beer garden to radio station, popular pizzeria, live music venue and absolutely everything (and we really mean everything) in between, Teder is the place to be this week! Starting on Tuesday night, Teder’s very own Romano is celebrating International Synthesizer Day, so if you’re a lover of electronic music this is certainly the event for you! Later in the week, starting Friday afternoon, Teder will be hosting Motivo Positivo as they take over Romano with their records. Outside, inside, upstairs and downstairs – this will be an all day and all night party! Then, last but not least, celebrate Haoneg Shabbat and their 20th anniversary the following day and evening.
