Cinema Nirvana: Out of Mind – Shamanic, Psychedelic, Mystical Travels
A cinematic meeting with Prof. Yaakov Raz
Saturday, May 11, at 11:00 at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque

Most of our lives are horribly average: the house, the neighborhood, the work, the fears and the hopes – all around the small self afraid to lose sight of the average. But there is the possibility of a different consciousness, in other dimensions, very real, but not visible to the ordinary eye. Many people in history, and around us, too, have been reported to have such dimensions. How can the shamanic, psychedelic, and mystical journeys bring us to the dimensions of a world experience that never occurred to us and is here?

Screenplay: Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
Directed by Steven Eliot
Actors: Hugo Weaving, Guy Pierce, Terence Stump
Australia, 1994, 104 min, English Hebrew subtitles

A stylized and spectacular film about two old drag queens and transsexuals embarking on a journey through Australian deserts on a pink bus called Priscilla. The film, a postmodernist musical that was a hit and turned into a cult film, moves the subculture of drag from the periphery to the center and deals with the characters in the twilight zone of sex and gendarme, and a meeting between the conservative culture and the alternative culture represented by the main characters. The entire film is full of colorful and extravagant costumes and music of the 80’s, mainly Abba and Gloria Gaynor. Terence Stump is surprising in the extraordinary portrayal of Brandt, the aging transsexual.
