The Oh Wonder story is one of the great Cinderella stories of the last few years. When Josephine van der Guth and Anthony West decided to try their luck in the music industry – it was behind the scenes. The musical duo from the London scene decided that the road to economic existence from music was paved by releasing recorded material for a year and hoping that at the end of the year they could sell the songs to well-known artists, with a big name that would make the songs hits.
They did not think that big name would be them.
The songs they took caught ears in the net and on the radio and collected tens of thousands, and then hundreds of thousands of wiretaps and very quickly crossed the line of a million. Today, the song collection that became their first album named after them (“Oh Wonde”) is approaching half a billion wiretaps, and BillBoard was chosen by one of the five hacks of the year in 2015, and their debut album starred in charts around the world. 162 performances in 112 cities and 5 in a 14-month period and sold nearly 100,000 tickets.
They recently released their second album, “Ultralife”, which was crowned by critics like NME and Billboard as “hypnotist” and “the work of songwriting experts.” They come to Israel after a series of successful summer performances at the world’s largest festivals and the status of one of the most promising burglaries in recent years.
