FREAKS

Purim comes and in honor of the holiday we will read the masterpiece of the director Todd Browning, who collected a collection of human mutations in his film and circulated a story about life in the circus. Among the film’s stars is a woman with a mustache and beard, a worm man who is only a body and a head without hands and feet (in one famous scene he lights himself a cigarette!), Dwarves and more. When the film was released, it shocked the world of cinema at the time, but despite the harsh initial feeling it leaves in the viewer, it is a sensitive human story that does not use the distortions of its heroes to portray them as dangerous or frightening, but as equal members of human society.
