The 16th Tel Aviv Municipal Community Gallery was founded in 1998 by the Tel Aviv Municipality and curator Irit Seguli, and since its inception, the gallery has been active in the community center of Neve Eliezer, seeking to move the artistic discourse from the center to the periphery, And in the course of the years, many exhibitions have been held in the gallery, in addition to various initiatives in cooperation with the residents of the neighborhood.

This year the gallery marks twenty years of extensive activity. On the occasion of the festivities, and under the direction of curator Karni Barzilai, we created “Sweet 16”, an event that transforms the public space of the neighborhood into an artistic-experiential space for one evening, in which acts of celebration, hospitality and playfulness take place. The various activities will emphasize the community’s character alongside the artistic nature of the event, both by artists and residents of the neighborhood. While the artists will express their artistic perception in the public space, the residents will carry out activities that will share their lives in the neighborhood and their personal and community activities. Thus, the project will present the two communities that consume the gallery (the art community and the local community) out of a desire to give expression to each of them.
