Maze 9 - Maze 9, Tel Aviv,
When was the last time you have visited in a photography exhibition with photographs taken by homeless people?
WE ARE HAPPY TO INVITE YOU TO STORIES OF THE STREETS TLV #2
‘People of the Streets’ is an artistic and international social enterprise with the purpose of showcasting the unique and human stories of marginal populations within society, and of homeless people in particular.
In the past year, we have launched the project in Tel Aviv-Jaffa, exhibited in PHOTO OPEN UP international photography festival in Italy, and in the Tate Britain Gallery in London. We are delighted to invite you to our second exhibition in Tel Aviv- Jaffa- exhibiting photos taken exclusively by homeless people in Tel Aviv- Jaffa.
How did it happen?
The participants photographers received disposable cameras to document their lives, after a training in photography and storytelling. As we invite the public to the exhibition, we aim to disrupt negative perceptions and stereotypes around homelessness, by rediscovering faces, names and stories.
“The exhibition seeks to address one of the burning – but muted – social issues that exist in Israeli society today – homelessness . We do not come to shock with horrific statistics or images, such as these are enough. We came to connect stigmas and prejudices to names, faces and life stories. It will show the city of Tel Aviv, as reflected by those who experience the city from its social, economic and geographic margins. Art can create a radical change in how we perceive people living on the fringes of society, because art belongs to everyone without exception. ” Tamar Shemesh, project director.
The event will include video, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks, talks and more.
