The analog image has a place of honor in the hierarchy of images. It is an impressive an rich image. But the new technologies that have evolved in recent decades, however, have eroded the status of analog photography as well as its associated set of values. The emphasis on the “original” and its aura has diverted to engagement with the image’s mutability and reproduction. Film was substituted by the digital file, leaving behind not only nostalgia for the materiality of the film reel, but mainly longing for the analog logic, and its innate continuity, singularity, and indexicality. Vis-à-vis this aesthetic and cultural perception of analog film production as an indicator of “high-end economy,” on the one hand, and of loss and yearning, on the other, the exhibition Sight Lines presents contemporary works in which Israeli and international artists rethink the use of film in today’s world.

Entrance to the gallery will be allowed under the Ministry of Health guidelines:
Entry will be allowed to a maximum of 20 people at a given time.
Entry will require wearing a face mask (ages 7 and up), maintaining a 2-meter distance, measuring body temperature and responding to a health statement.
*Hand sanitizers will be available for visitors.

בהיררכיית הדימויים, לדימוי האנלוגי שמור מקום של כבוד. זהו דימוי מרשים, עשיר ובעל עומק. אבל הטכנולוגיות החדשות שצמחו בעשורים האחרונים פגעו במעמדו של הצילום האנלוגי, כמו גם בסט הערכים המשויך אליו. הדגש על “המקור” וההילה הכרוכה בו הוסט לעיסוק ביכולת ההִשתנות וההעתק של הדימוי. הפילם הפך לקובץ דיגיטלי, משאיר אחריו לא רק נוסטלגיה אל החומריות של הסליל אלא בעיקר געגוע להיגיון האנלוגי, על ההמשכיות, החד פעמיות והאינדקסליות הטבועה בו. אל מול תפיסה אסתטית ותרבותית זו של הצילום האנלוגי כסמן של “כלכלת היוקרה” מחד, ושל אובדן וגעגוע מאידך, מציגה התערוכה קווי ראייה שורה של עבודות עכשוויות בהן אמנים ישראלים ובינלאומיים חושבים מחדש את השימוש בפילם.

הכניסה לגלריה תתקיים תחת הנחיות משרד הבריאות:
הכניסה לגלריה מוגבלת ל 20 איש בזמן נתון.
הכניסה תחייב חבישת מסיכת פנים (מגיל 7 ומעלה), שמירת מרחק של 2 מטר, מדידת חום ומענה על הצהרת בריאות.
*בגלריה מפוזרים מתקנים לחיטוי ידיים לשימוש המבקרים.
התערוכה מתקיימת בתמיכתה האדיבה של קרן משפחת אוסטרובסקי ומשכן האמנים בהרצליה.
