On Wednesday, October 20, we will screen Michal Aviad Israel’s film 2016 at Cafe Shapira 70 minutes | Hebrew | English subtitles
Michal Aviad, creator of documentaries and feature films Aviad’s films deal with socio-political phenomena from the perspective of women.
Seven women came from the ship in the 1950s and 1960s directly to Dimona, a newly established town. Now they open to us a rare window into a life that has never been told from a point of view. What happened in the first fifteen years to girls and women who came with their families from North Africa and Poland and found themselves establishing a city in the desert? They tell of the pain of displacement from the homeland they left behind, the poverty of the new homeland, the difficulties of adaptation and their stubborn and creative attempts to create a rich and meaningful life.
In the film Dimona Twist, which combines conversations with the heroines with private and public archives, they share with us their struggles and the insights they acquired with humor, sadness and sobriety.
After the film, there will be a meeting with the creator Michal Aviad.
