In a very short poem about a well-known painting by Vermeer, Wislawa Szymborska wrote: “As long as this woman is from the Rijksmuseum / pours daily / calmly and concentrates drawn / milk from the jug into the bowl, the world is not worthy of the end of the world.”
Professor Nissim Calderon will lecture at the Dizzy Prishdon lecture on the world of the Nobel Prize-winning Polish poet: her clarity, her warmth, and her simple simplicity, and the experience she accumulated in maintaining sobriety, and even a cautious measure of optimism, in the land on whose land it took place Two World Wars and the Holocaust of the Jewish People. And why did Siborska win a particularly large and especially loving readership in Israel? The lecture will also address this question.

Prof. Nissim Calderon is an emeritus professor at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Department of Hebrew Literature. He was among the editors of the “Siman Kri’a” and “Makarov” magazines and wrote and edited many books on Israeli literature and Israeli rock as the creative continuation of Hebrew poetry.
