The legendary Pina Bausch Dance Theater will open a new ballet season 2018-2019 at the Tel-Aviv Opera Theater.

“Who knows why people dance?” – as Pina Bausch once said. Her “Mazurka Fogo” – a ballet gathered from bright colors of memories, a dance let through the heart – gives an answer to this question. “Mazurka Fogo” is a lot of motley stories about Portugal, a traveling diary in the dance set in 1998 for the Lisbon exhibition “Expo 98” with more than 30 dancers from 16 different countries. A dizzying cascade, a collage of images and sounds, stormy waves, a rumble of theatrical imagination, an unrivaled splendor of thought and dance. Two and a half hours of beautiful dance, imagination and fruit and a great creative spirit.

The soundtrack of the Mazurka Fogo is a fado song performed by the eminent Portuguese singer Amalia Rodriguez, as well as the Brazilian samba, bossa nova, jazz compositions by Duke Ellington, Ben Webster and Swedish vocalist Lisa Ekdal and classical music performed by avant-garde string quartet Alexander Balanescu, violinist Gidon Kremer and other performers.

After the premiere in Germany in Wuppertal, the “Mazurka Fogo” was repeatedly shown around the world, in Lisbon, Berlin, Paris, Barcelona, Sydney, São Paulo, Hong Kong, New York, London, Moscow and other cities.
