Beit Kandinof - Hatzofim 14, Tel Aviv,

My eyes blinked
A solo exhibition by Mati Elmaliach.
Festive opening 4.9.19 at 20:00

“My works are the result of the reality of my life as an Israeli: my personal biography, the personal and collective memory of the society in which I live. A connection between the political reality and the social reality in which we live. ”

Almaliach’s gaze focuses on images taken from his own archive, his family and friends, or images from the past of others that he does not know. In the process Almaliah is aware of the history of the image, whether it is personal or fiction; Aware of what the original photographer had thrown at the photograph; Moreover, he is aware of what he as an artist imposes on the photographed object and thus forms a relationship with images from the past.

Elmaleh examines the formality, the material and the texture, the effects on the photographed image; This is done by folding, duplicating, perforating, embroidery, placing in space and adding sculptural objects. An examination of the process in which the image becomes the material itself becomes an auxiliary object within the totality of the work, from physical material that exists, and creates new images that range from two to three dimensions. The material versus the image and redefining it.
