MAMMA MIA! is Judy Craymer’s ingenious vision of staging the story-telling magic of ABBA’s timeless songs with an enchanting tale of family and friendship unfolding on a Greek island. MAMMA MIA! The Movie is the highest worldwide grossing live-action musical film of all time.

With music & lyrics by Benny Andersson & Björn Ulvaeus, MAMMA MIA! is written by Catherine Johnson, directed by Phyllida Lloyd and choreographed by Anthony Van Laast. The production is designed by Mark Thompson, with lighting design by Howard Harrison, sound design by Andrew Bruce & Bobby Aitken, and musical supervision, additional material & arrangements by Martin Koch. The MAMMA MIA! International Tour is produced by Judy Craymer, Richard East & Björn Ulvaeus for Littlestar in association with Universal, Stage Entertainment and NGM.

The musical is set on a small Greek island. On the eve of her wedding, Sophie, an only child to her mother, wishes to finally discover her father’s true identity. In her mother’s diary (Donna), Sophie finds hints of three lovers, with whom her mother has spent, at the time of her conception, a passionate and lustful night. The daughter, in the name of her mother, yet without her knowledge, invites all three lovers for the eve of her wedding, with the hope that one of them would turn out to be her father and would walk her down the aisle. Indeed, all three men appear, full of good memories, at the magical Greek island, in the little hotel that the mother runs with the aid of her daughter.

The plot thickens as all three men realize that the girl, about to be married, does not know who her father is and that in fact, each and every one of them might be the father. Her mother’s best friends, also invited to the wedding, and a group of the daughter’s friends, form the chorus line and share the indecisions, the fears and the rising joy as the wedding day draws near. The plot’s ending surprises the viewers – when during the wedding ceremony, the daughter decides not to marry, yet, simultaneously convinces her mother to marry one of the men who had waited for her for 20 years.

MAMMA MIA! is considered a global phenomenon. Catherine Johnson, the creator, and Judy Craymer, the producer, added new content into ABBA’s golden hits which is surprisingly integrated into the songs and the story, spurs the plot forward and still provides it with a unique interpretation.

As mentioned, the MAMMA MIA! International Tour production staged in Israel is absolutely identical with the original London show. It is presented in English with the aid of Hebrew subtitles screened at the sides of the stage. The viewer experiences the exact variety of production and direction elements as in the original, alongside with unique and genius ideas of lighting, sound and certainly the original choreography that ensures the utmost entertainment. 100 tons of equipment will be flown to Israel on two special cargo aircrafts.

MAMMA MIA! in Israel is presented by the promoter team of Marek Lieberberg and Shmuel Zemach in association with Littlestar and NGM.
