Some might call the new album by Pato Sadie Ghali and Almano Acroñi “Traditional Music” – but this is out of an inability to find the exact words for his description.
A record, called “Les Filles de Illighadad”, has a familiar sound from the sounds that always seem to be playing in the background. It is difficult to talk about, because it is created from sources far from the industrialized and Western world in which we live light years. This is country music. Of the type created when there is no access to electricity, or countless musical passages for immediate listening on YouTube. Music whose live performance always exceeds that recorded. Perhaps “rural music” really embodies a more accurate description of such music. It stands in its own right, and the connection between it and the authentic, traditional source can be examined separately.
