Mingus – bassist, pianist, guitarist, composer and leader – is one of the essential characters in American music of the 20th century, who grew up in the league and his own unique language alongside giants such as Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk and Duke Ellington. Mingus recorded, produced and released more than 100 albums during his lifetime, many of them cultural milestones that still resonate to this day
From the sixties to his death, Mingus stood on the avant-garde front of the jazz world, and his unique touch turned everything he was dealing with – from Big Band, through the bronze bop to free jazz to the explosion of composition, color and emotion
