“Aliyah on Stage: How the performing arts help olim go from feeling ‘Miscast’ to playing the lead role in their own Tel Aviv story.”

Presented by Becky Brothman and Ayelet Shuber

About The Stage:

The Stage is Tel Aviv’s home for performing arts in English. We are a volunteer-based community dedicated to creating a platform for anyone to turn their artistic ambition, small or large, into reality. Our activities and performing arts events in Tel Aviv consist of large and small productions and performances, community events and workshops. There are a ton of opportunities for Israelis and native English speakers alike. We welcome all backgrounds, ages, and levels of experience, to be a part of our community or lead a project. We are here to help make YOUR performing arts dreams come to life. The Stage was established in October 2013, and is a registered Israeli non-profit organization.

Becky Brothman made Aliyah from Chicago in October 2014. She is the Artistic Director of The Stage, Tel Aviv’s home for the performing arts in English, through which she co-hosts a monthly stand-up comedy showcase and has taken part in several original theater productions as a producer, director, writer and actor. Her writing has been featured in The Jerusalem Post and she is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Literature at Tel Aviv University. She lives in Tel Aviv with her Haifa-born husband and their two native Israeli cats.

Ayelet Shuber’ is a writer, lawyer, an American, Argentinean, Israeli, Miamian, New Yorker, but never before till now a Miscasteer. Ayelet has previously produced and directed her short film “Blue Chef,” but this is her first time producing theater. She’s been with The Stage since taking the Artist’s Way workshop. In New York, Ayelet studied comedy sketch writing at the Upright Citizens Brigade. When Ayelet is not working, she can be found blogging about travel, watching quality scripted television, and enjoying poppy seed bagels, often with lox and cream cheese.
