Jaffa Theater - Mifrats Shlomo Promenade 10, Tel Aviv,

The students of Helmut Schmidt High School from Hamburg, Germany see their theatre project „NEUgeDENKEN?“ as a commitment against exclusion, representing the values of an open and humane society. The students are German, however, their parents are from different countries, which is why none of them has German roots or any personal relation to German history.

For this reason, they have developed a performance by working with historical documents, delivering interpretations of songs in different languages and personal texts dealing with the biographies of victims of persecution and of the genocides during and after the Shoah. This project will be performed as a play with scenic reading and musical backing. After their performance, the group gladly invites the audience to join in the discussion about German identity and culture in the 21st century, being aware of the obligation to remember.
