“As far as we can leave the thread …”

Gallery talk in the artist’s only exhibition, Batya Shani, with historian and curator Yaara Kedar.

2020, already here, but artist Batya Shani continues to create through ancient craft, leaving no room for shortcuts. This time, talk to her historic home and fashion curator, Yaara Kedar, about memories that clothes carry and convey, about the cultural connections created by the threads weaved, about the history of feminine and laborious crafts, and the ever-blurring boundary between art and art.

In the fascinating encounter, the two will try to gauge the power of the garment and discuss the various meanings it receives – once as a clothing item and once as an artistic performance. Kidder investigates the relationship between fashion and museums and curated numerous exhibitions in the center of the clothing star, including the exhibition “Ze Tam, Ronit Elkabetz” at the Holon Design Museum and the Walk of Art shoe exhibition. We invite you to be exposed to another layer in the work of artist Batya Shani. The encounter with the garment and the memory it carries with it violate its creation and allow it to draw from its power, thus empowering it back through a busy, compressed tissue that leaves no air to breathe.
