The second meeting of the experimental film club, focuses on different practises of fiction, metafiction and autofiction. The films presented in the program, draw an intricate mixture of critical approaches to fiction-making, filmmaking and media as a whole. They question exciting and also problematised concepts of representation, authorship, perspective, violence and sexuality. Carrying on the film club’s inquiry after new forms of image-making, this program aims to ponder notions of story-telling; offering the critique of narrative within a narrative.

FASHIONS | KEREN CYTTER | 2020 | 30 min
The video follows three women living in a prototypically bourgeois German apartment: a young woman who nurses a crush on her stylish neighbour; her mother, a busy cook at a cafeteria; and her unemployed and submissive grandmother. In the beginning she watches a rather unsettling TV program with her grandchild, in which a young man demonstrates strangling techniques as a workout routine set to an easy-listening electro soundtrack. The passive grandmother, a „burden“ to the other two, is first exiled to the basement, before her grandchild sells her off to be the new subject to be strangled in the exercise program. Without the specific context of the institution and its focus on the memorialization of historical Nazi-terror, Cytter’s piece opens up to a more complex reading. It frames the rise of right–wing ideologies as less of an irrational turn, but a direct effect and continuation of a neoliberal agenda, that reduces individuals to bodies with an exchangeable value. If her sweet video connects fascism with fashion, it’s not about the high-end but the mainstream “putting the train to Auschwitz back on its tracks,” this time far beyond Germany and its history, but everywhere and every day.

MOTHER OF ALL FICTIONS | WALTER SOLON | 2019 | 30 min
Mother of All Fictions is the story of a failed film project. South American filmmaker Walter Solon travels to Los Angeles. His goal is to write a feature film based on the biography and mythology around his great aunt Lina Mosebach. Lina had migrated to Los Angeles after surviving the Holocaust and spending her teenage years with Walter’s great grandparents in South America. The family myth holds that Lina went to become a CIA screenwriter and film theorist, therefore cutting all contact with her family in South America. Walter tries to track down his great aunt (who might be still alive), while working on a script, casting and location scouting for a “feminist biopic” about Lina. As new gaps of representation emerge and personal connections are made, the impossibility of a faithful rendering of his propagandist aunt become more and more acute. While Walter’s plan of joining an LA film school and making the film might never materialize, what we watch is a recollection of that time, years later, using fragments of location scouting and casting material to tell the story of an unfulfilled project. Fail again, fail better.

I FOUND MANNA AND I ATE IT | SOPHIE LEE | 2018 | 10 min
‘I found manna and I ate it’ centres loosely on the medieval mystic and polymath Hildegard von Bingen. A series of tableaux vivant depicting Hildegard and her companions is intercut with footage of a night in London, in which we follow a group of female friends across the city as the evening unravels. The work investigates ideas around desire and female sociality, as well as connections between music, spirituality and states of ecstasy.

המפגש השני של מועדון הקולנוע הניסיוני מתמקד בפרקטיקות שונות של סיפורת, מטא-פיקציה ואוטו-פיקציה. הסרטים המוצגים בתוכנית, משרטטים תערובת מורכבת של גישות ביקורתיות ליצירת הבדיוני, קולנוע ומדיה בכללותה. תוך שימוש בטכניקות רגשיות ולאו-דווקא נוחות, היצירות מערערות במושגים של ייצוג, מחבר, פרספקטיבה, אלימות ומיניות. תוכנית זו לוקחת על עצמה את החקירה של מועדון הקולנוע לאחר צורות חדשות של תמונות נעות, ומטרתה להרהר ברעיונות של סיפור; הצגת הביקורת על הנרטיב בתוך נרטיב.

הסרט עוקב אחר שלוש נשים המתגוררות בדירה גרמנית בורגנית: אישה צעירה שמפתחת קראש בשכן המסוגנן שלה; אמה, טבחית עסוקה בקפיטריה; וסבתה המובטלת והכנועה. בהתחלה היא צופה בתוכנית טלוויזיה מטרידה למדי עם נכדה, שבה צעיר מדגים טכניקות חניקה כשגרת אימון לפסקול אלקטרו. הסבתא הפסיבית, “נטל” לשני האחרים, נשלחת תחילה למרתף, לפני שנכדתה מוכרת אותה להיחנק בתוכנית האימונים. ללא ההקשר של הממסד וההתמקדות שלו בהנצחת הטרור הנאצי ההיסטורי, היצירה של ציטר נפתחת לקריאה מורכבת יותר. היא ממסגרת את עליית האידיאולוגיות הימניות פחות כמפנה לא רציונלי, אלא כאפקט ישיר והמשך של אג’נדה ניאו-ליברלית, שמצמצמת פרטים לגופים בעלי ערך החלפה. אם הוידאו המתקתק שלה מחבר בין פשיזם לאופנה, לא מדובר בהיי-אנד אלא במיינסטרים “להחזיר את הרכבת לאושוויץ למסלולה”, הפעם הרבה מעבר לגרמניה וההיסטוריה שלה, אלא בכל מקום ובכל יום.

Mother of all fiction הוא סיפורו של פרויקט קולנוע כושל. יוצר הסרטים הדרום אמריקאי וולטר סולון נוסע ללוס אנג’לס. מטרתו היא לכתוב סרט עלילתי המבוסס על הביוגרפיה והמיתולוגיה סביב דודתו הגדולה לינה מוזבאך. לינה היגרה ללוס אנג’לס לאחר ששרדה את השואה ובילתה את שנות העשרה שלה עם סבא וסבתא רבא של וולטר בדרום אמריקה. המיתוס המשפחתי גורס שלינה הלכה להיות תסריטאית ותיאורטיקנית של ה-CIA, ולכן ניתקה כל קשר עם משפחתה בדרום אמריקה. וולטר מנסה לאתר את דודתו הגדולה (שאולי עדיין בחיים), תוך כדי עבודה על תסריט, ליהוק וחיפוש מיקום ל”ביוגרפיה פמיניסטית” על לינה. ככל שמתגלים פערים חדשים של ייצוג ויצירת קשרים אישיים, חוסר האפשרות של עיבוד נאמן של דודתו התועמלנית מתחדדת יותר ויותר. בעוד שתוכניתו של וולטר להצטרף לבית ספר לקולנוע בלוס אנג’לס וליצור את הסרט אולי לעולם לא תתממש, מה שאנו צופים בו הוא זיכרון של אותה תקופה, שנים מאוחר יותר, תוך שימוש פרגרמנטרי בחומרי גלם של סיורי לוקיישן וליהוק כדי לספר את סיפורו של פרויקט שלא הושלם. להיכשל שוב, להיכשל יותר טוב.

‘I found mama and i ate it מתרכז באופן רופף על המיסטיקנית הרב תחומית מימי הביניים הילדגרד פון בינגן. סדרה של תמונות המתארות את הילדגרד וחברותיה משתלבות בצילומים של לילה בלונדון, שבו אנו עוקבים אחר קבוצת חברות ברחבי העיר כשהערב מתפרק. העבודה חוקרת רעיונות סביב תשוקה וחברתיות נשית, כמו גם קשרים בין מוזיקה, רוחניות ומצבי אקסטזה.

לאחר ההקרנה יתקיים דיון באנגלית
