Hypernormalization is a term that describes a situation in which we live in a false version of reality: a hyper-reality that defies the relationship between representation and its represented object and leaves truth as a hollow, unrecognizable expression. What are the ways in which art relates to the phenomenon of hypernormalization, how does hypernormalism affect contemporary art, and to what extent can art created by those who are themselves “immersed” in the hypernatural world undermine it or break its boundaries?
