Hezi Cohen Gallery - Wolfson Street 54, Tel Aviv,

Gallery Hezi Cohen is happy to invite you to the first solo exhibition of the artist Alona Harpaz at the gallery. Harpaz lives and works in Berlin and participated in solo exhibitions and group exhibitions in Israel and abroad.

In the exhibition “I’m Not Here For Your Dream,” Alona Harpaz will present her latest works. The works deal with examining the role of painting as a lecturing and seductive act, and as an aesthetic experience through which the spectator seeks to share a moment of triumphal fantasy.

The portrait of Nadia Comaneci opens the exhibition. The image that Harpaz returned from an old photograph of the legendary gymnast. In the photograph stands Comanchey holding the doll in her image. The doll was part of a whole mechanism designed to market Comanche as merchandise. Comanche, the symbol of courage, daring and motivation, was an object of admiration, but at the same time her story exposes a narrative of exploitation by an economic and political mechanism. The symbol, or the myth through which manipulation is realized, are some of the topics that Harpaz deals with in the current exhibition.
