America was always in love with macho with a magical smile and a tendency to pull out too quickly. Indeed, when former film star Ronald Reagan entered the White House, he devoted more time to the show and image than any other activity.
The Reagan era was a turbulent era: the nuclear arms race, the Star Wars program, the beginning of rapprochement with the Soviet bloc-but the real rhythm was dictated by the clatter of cameras. The film, based on thousands of hours of behind-the-scenes footage, provides an amusing and horrifying look at the White House’s conduct at the same time, raising questions about current conduct.
