The Stage is so excited to be hosting our first ever comedy sketch writing workshop!

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Come find your inner Tina Fey in this brand new half-day taster on writing and performing sketch comedy! We’ll kick off by learning the basic rules for creating side-splitting sketches – because the best comedy ideas are lost without them! Sampling some of the greatest sketches ever written (from SNL, Monty Python, Funny or Die and more), we’ll discover what really makes them so hilarious. We’ll also explore what makes the best content and have fun with different styles. Creating The Stage’s *first ever* writers room, as a group we’ll brainstorm sketch ideas, create some fun characters, mine them for comedy gold, and finally test them out to understand when the comedy lands. Finally, in duos and trios, everyone will write and perform a one-page sketch…and then go home inspired to create a viral sketch with more views than Charlie Bit My Finger.

Bring your quill, ink and your funnybone. There will also be a short homework activity for participants before the workshop to help get the creative juices flowing.

No previous writing experience required.
