The increasing popularity of right-wing parties and politicians all over Europe and in the US has turned them into political actors that can no longer be ignored. Alongside their new isolationist and nationalist approach to politics, they also bring about a new attitude towards Israel.

A closer look at these movements shows that their attitude towards Israel is seemingly contradictory: In their efforts to demonize Muslims and the religion of Islam, many of them claim to support the state of Israel. Yet, in many cases, anti-semitism is deeply entrenched in the history and structures of these movements and widespread among their supporters.

For Israel, the paradoxical nature of these movements presents a dilemma: What should be the country’s policy towards the new pro-Israeli, yet anti-semitic Right in Western democracies?
